As a graduate of one of the most competitive colleges in the country, the University of Chicago, and an alumni of one of the best high schools in the state, East Grand Rapids High School, where I competed on three tennis championship teams, I am aware of the many pressures that face individuals today, especially young people. I also know from personal experience that life does not always go as imagined and can be difficult. But, a successful life can occur by the intelligent use and understanding of those challenging times. As Vince Lombardi said, “It is not whether you get knocked down, it is whether you get up.” Staying stuck in the same spot does not solve life’s problems, you must get back up and understand how to change your life to find greater freedom and happiness. To achieve greater happiness it is important to live a balanced life through exercise, eating right, sleep, friends, family, and a sense of humor.
